• A good quality treadmill will have at least a 2 horsepower CONTINUOUS DUTY motor. Most will have 2 – 3 hp PEAK, but you’re looking for CONTINUOUS for durability.

• Buy the widest, longest unit that will fit in your home. Of course. the larger units may cast a little more, but you’ll be glad you got the bigger one as it will be more comfortable to use.

• Get a warranty. Not the extended, extra-cost warranty, I’m talking about a standard one or two year warranty. If you get past the first 6 months, then, chances are, you’ll have a good-performing, reliable treadmill for a number of years.
